Lagree has a reputation. People talk about the shake, the slow burn and the feeling of having worked every muscle in their body — so it’s natural to feel a little nervous before your first class.
The good news: nobody expects you to know the Megaformer on day one. Here’s exactly what happens when you book your first Lagree class at The Reformr Lagree Studio in Abu Dhabi Mall, from what to wear to how you’ll feel afterwards.
What is Lagree?
Lagree is a fitness method developed by Sebastien Lagree and performed on his own machine, the Megaformer. The Megaformer has platforms at each end, a spring-loaded carriage in the middle, and handles and cables for the upper body.
The method is built on slow, controlled, continuous movement. Instead of using momentum, you keep your muscles under tension for longer, moving from one exercise to the next with minimal rest. It’s high-intensity, yet low-impact: there’s no jumping or pounding, just focused work that challenges your strength, endurance, core and balance.

Booking your first class
The easiest way to start is a single tryout class. At The Reformr it costs AED 155 and is valid for two weeks, so you can pick the time that suits you. Book online or in The Reformr app — see all Lagree prices and packages.
A few things worth knowing before you book:
- Tell us about any injuries or health conditions when you book, so your coach can adapt your workout.
- Cancellations need 12 hours’ notice. Classes cancelled later than that are charged in full — our studio policies have the details.
- Book ahead. Spaces on the Megaformers are limited, so popular times fill up.
What to wear and bring
Keep it simple:
- Fitted workout clothes that let you move freely. Loose layers can catch on the machine.
- Grip socks. They’re recommended for stability on the carriage and platforms.
- A bottle of water. You’ll want it.
Leave valuables at home where you can — you’ll be focused on the work, not your phone.
Arrive ten minutes early
This is the one thing we ask of every first-timer. Arriving ten minutes before class gives your coach time to welcome you, walk you through the Megaformer and show you how the carriage, platforms and springs work.
It’s also your chance to ask questions and mention anything your coach should know. By the time class starts, you’ll know where to stand and what to expect.
What your first class feels like
Lagree is slower than most people expect — and that’s exactly what makes it hard. Your coach counts you through each movement and guides every transition, so you always know what comes next.
Within the first few exercises you’ll probably feel your muscles start to shake. That’s normal: it means you’re working hard while the pace stays slow and controlled. Go at your own intensity, take the options your coach offers and rest when you need to. Nobody is watching you — they’re all busy shaking too.
Expect to leave energised, a little wobbly and already curious about the next class.
After class
Drink plenty of water and give your body time to recover. Many people feel their muscles the next day, especially through the legs and core, so plan a lighter day or a gentler session before your next Lagree class.
How often should you do Lagree?
Many people enjoy two to four Lagree classes a week, with recovery days in between. Because Lagree is intense, balance matters.
That’s why so many of our members mix in Reformer Pilates: precise, restorative work on the reformer complements the intensity of Lagree beautifully. Our Mixed package gives you 10 classes for AED 1,350 to use for Lagree or Reformer Pilates, class by class, at both studios. Not sure how the two compare? Read Lagree vs Reformer Pilates.
